The camera physically slides left or right, parallel to the scene, without rotating — the subject and background shift across frame together but the camera's heading never changes. Distinct from a pan because the whole rig translates sideways rather than rotating in place. Constant speed, ends settled on a new lateral position.

When to use it: Following a subject moving alongside the camera, or gliding past a scene to reveal depth and parallax between foreground and background. Pick the direction that matches the subject's travel.
