Quick answer
Starrd's Day 1 of owning a Roadster V2 template is part two of the viral 'Day 1 of owning a Roadster' meme. Photo 1 is the driver, a person or a pet. Photo 2 is optional: upload a photo of your own car and it becomes the car in every shot; leave it empty and it's a white Tesla Roadster. It's four shots with cuts. Outside on a rainy city street, the car is stuck head-on in a long traffic jam next to a blue city bus. Inside, from the passenger seat, the driver is bored, scrolling their phone, a takeaway coffee in the cup holder, and at about 5 seconds presses a button by the coffee. Outside from behind, rocket thrusters fire with orange flame and huge clouds of steam off the wet road, and the car blasts straight up and flies a loop, leaving a ring of smoke. Inside again, flying past snowy mountains, the coffee lifts out of the holder, floats, spills and flies into the camera while the driver gets whiplash, thrown back and forth with arms (or paws) flailing. Sound effects are generated (rain, a button beep, the rocket roar, wind, the coffee splash), with no music. A Director's Note can change the driver's outfit and the default car's colour. People and pets, 13 seconds, vertical 9:16, 480p, 150 credits (about $7.50).
Part two of Day 1 of owning a Roadster: stuck in a rainy traffic jam, you get bored, press one button by your coffee, and rocket thrusters blast the car straight up into a loop while the coffee floats and spills and you get whiplash. Four shots, sound effects, people or pets, and your own car if you want it. Here it is, with a golden retriever behind the wheel:
Day 1 of owning a Roadster V2
Stuck in a rainy traffic jam, you press one button by your coffee and rocket thrusters launch the car into a loop. Your own car optional. 13 seconds, vertical.
What You Get
- Four shots, with cuts. Outside in the rain, inside from the passenger seat, outside from behind for the launch, and inside again for the flight.
- One photo, the driver. A person or a pet.
- Your own car, optional. Add a photo of your vehicle and it becomes the car in every shot. Leave it out and it's a white Tesla Roadster.
- The boredom. Stuck in traffic, scrolling your phone, a coffee in the cup holder.
- The button. One press by the coffee, and the rocket thrusters fire.
- The flight. Straight up, a loop with a ring of smoke behind it, then past snowy mountains while your coffee floats and spills and you get whiplash.
- Sound effects, no music. Rain, a button beep, the rocket roar, wind and the coffee splash.
- 13 seconds, vertical 9:16.
What the Meme Actually Is
"Day 1 of owning a Roadster" is the joke that you've just got the car and you don't know what it can do yet. The first version of the trend recreates Crab & Claw's (@crabnclaw) Instagram reel, where the car simply lifts out of traffic and the driver doesn't react at all.
V2 is inspired by another Instagram reel, "Day 1 of Owning a Roadster" by creator Leo Robles (@iamleorobles), captioned "I'm sure I'll get the hang of this." That caption is the joke of Starrd's V2: it's day 1, you're bored in traffic, you press one button to see what it does, and nothing about the next eight seconds is calm.
Why it suits AI: you need rocket thrusters on a car, a loop in the sky and a coffee floating around the cabin, in a car that can be yours. One photo puts you behind the wheel, and a second can put your own car under you.
The Beats, Second by Second
| Time | Shot | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00 | Outside, a rainy city street | The car is stuck head-on in a long traffic jam next to a blue city bus, rain coming down |
| 2s | Inside, from the passenger seat | You're bored, scrolling your phone (a pet just stares ahead), a takeaway coffee in the cup holder |
| 5s | Still inside | You press a button by the coffee, and it beeps |
| 5.9s | Outside, from behind | Rocket thrusters fire with orange flame and huge clouds of steam off the wet road, and the car blasts straight up and flies a loop, leaving a ring of smoke |
| 9s | Inside, flying past snowy mountains | The coffee lifts out of the cup holder, floats, spills and flies into the camera, and you get whiplash, thrown back and forth with arms (or paws) flailing |
| 13s | Still flying | Coffee everywhere. You'll get the hang of it |
Who drives: photo 1. Pick one where your face is clear, since the inside shots are where you're seen up close.
What you drive: photo 2, if you want. A clear photo of your own car and it becomes the car in every shot. Leave it empty for the white Tesla Roadster.
Pets Welcome
- Your pet drives. Upload a pet photo as the driver.
- No phone, just staring. A pet doesn't scroll; it stares ahead at the traffic before the button.
- Same whiplash. Paws flailing instead of arms. We tested it with a golden retriever, and that's the demo at the top of this page.
Your Look, Your Car
- Your own face. The driver is you, from your photo.
- Your outfit, if you want one. Describe it in the Director's Notes.
- Your own car, if you want it. Upload it as photo 2 and it becomes the car in every shot. We tested it with a red Ford F-150 pickup, rocket thrusters and all.
- Or the Roadster. Leave photo 2 empty and it's a white Tesla Roadster. Want a different colour? Ask for it in the Director's Notes.
There's no music in this one, only sound effects: rain, a button beep, the rocket roar, wind and the coffee splash. That leaves room for whatever sound you want to post it with.
For your own car, use a clear, well-lit photo with the whole vehicle in frame. Whatever is in that photo is the car that blasts off.
The Fastest Way
Day 1 of owning a Roadster V2
One photo, plus your own car if you want it. Four shots from a rainy traffic jam to a rocket-powered loop, with sound effects. People and pets.
One photo (two with your car), 150 credits (about $7.50), no prompt. It renders at 480p, vertical 9:16, with sound effects. Both Roadster templates live in the Tesla Roadster category.
Build It Yourself
1. Start from a first frame. Generate the opening shot from outside: the car stuck head-on in a long traffic jam on a rainy city street, next to a blue city bus. If you're using your own car, put it in this frame.
2. Write it as four shots with times. Give every shot a time range and a camera position, and say where the cuts are. The launch only reads if you cut outside for it.
3. Set up the coffee early. Put it in the cup holder in the bored shot, with the button right next to it. That's the setup; the coffee floating and spilling in the last shot is the payoff.
4. Ask for the whiplash. Left alone, a model will keep the driver sitting still while the car flies a loop. Say they're thrown back and forth with arms flailing.
Four shots with hard cuts, vertical. 0 to 2s: outside on a rainy city street, a white Tesla Roadster is stuck head-on in a long traffic jam next to a blue city bus. 2 to 5.9s: inside, from the passenger seat, the person from the reference image sits in the driver's seat, bored, scrolling their phone, a takeaway coffee in the cup holder; at 5s they press a button next to the coffee, and it beeps. 5.9 to 9s: outside, from behind the car, rocket thrusters fire with orange flame and huge clouds of steam off the wet road, and the car blasts straight up and flies a loop, leaving a ring of smoke. 9 to 13s: inside, flying past snowy mountains, the coffee cup lifts out of the holder, floats, spills and flies into the camera, and the driver gets whiplash, thrown back and forth with arms flailing. Sound effects only, no music: rain, a button beep, a rocket roar, wind, a coffee splash.
5. Render it vertical. Feed the first frame and your photo to a model that takes reference images (we recommend Seedance 2.0 or 2.5), at 9:16 and 13 seconds, with generated audio on.
Common Mistakes
Skipping the boredom. The launch is only funny if you were bored first. Give the traffic and the phone scrolling a few seconds.
Losing the coffee. Show it in the cup holder before the button, or the floating, spilling coffee comes out of nowhere.
A calm driver. That's the first version's joke, not this one. If the driver sits still through the flight, the whiplash is gone.
Staying inside for the launch. The thrusters, the steam off the wet road and the loop need the outside shot from behind.
A car that changes. If you use your own car, it has to be the same car in every shot.
Describing the original driver. Describe the driver only from your own photo.
